Kerry Athletics Fixtures

Over the last few weeks we have been receiving a number of county fixtures which have been organised by the county board. Because the Kerry athletics web page is not been updated at this time, we have created our own calender of events in order to keep track of these.

You can find this on the upper right side of our blog. If their is anything which is related to county athletics & clubs please let us know and I will include.




On Saturday the 2nd of March their is is Turbo Javelin Coaching Course at An Riocht track. Turbo javelin is replacing the ball throw event for juveniles. The course is on between 11am and 1pm. A number of coaches /  representative from each club should attend this. Following this their will be Javelin coaching for the older kids (2pm - 4pm)

Join SPAR and RAY for 5K - March 25th, Killarney



We posted some weeks ago news about how the Today FM Ray D'Arcy show in conjunction with SPAR and Athletics Ireland will be hosting the “Join SPAR and Ray for 5K” fun run/walk on Monday 25th March at 1pm. 
This is a series of lunch time runs in 5 Cities/Towns in 5 days and is for all levels of fitness.
We're encouraging anyone who wants a relatively easy way to improve their health to take to their feet and go from couch to 5k in a matter of months.

Weekends Athletics Results (Munster Indoors & AAI cross country)




In Nenagh over the week-end we had the Munster U/14 to U/19 Indoor Championships
Provisional Results for DAY 1 and DAY 2 

From our club we had Luke Mangan who competed in the U16 High Jump. Luke took silver meday with an impressive jump of 1.60m



The Woodie's DIY AAI Inter Club & Juvenile Inter-County Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday 24th February 2013 in Tullamore.

In the Relays Kerry county took silver in the U12 girls. This team was made up of:

Results of the Gneeveguilla AC 5k (4 of 4) - Sat 23rd Feb

This was the final race of the Series held in Killarney on Saturday 23rd Feb. Their was another good turnout with around 120 runners taking parts in what was a cold dry morning.
A special thanks must go out to the Gneeveguilla AC race organisers. The whole series was very well organised with race results and photos posted on facebook the day after.

WEEKEND RACE RESULTS

We had a number of club athletes competing in a variety of events throughout the country over the week-end.

Clonakilty Back2Back Marathons
The highlight was when Jason Kerins competed in the Back2Back marathon run held in Clonakilty, Co. Cork. This was Jason's first attempt at a marathon distance. But to make it even more challenging he had to repeat all over again the following day.
Jason ran his first marathon on Saturday in a time of 4hrs 12mins. After a well deserved rest he took on the same course Sunday where he completed it in a time of 4hrs 30mins. Congratulations Jason you are an inspiration to us all.

Juvenile Training

Training at Community Hall in Farranfore GPS: 52.172649,-9.546777  for all Juveniles aged between 7 to 14yrs. starting on Thursday 28th Februrary from 6pm to 7pm.

All new comers are welcome. We will be training indoors for a number of weeks until the daylight hours and weather conditions improve.


The cost is €2 per session - payable on the day. This covers the cost for rental of facilities.

Join SPAR and RAY for 5K - Killarney 25th March



For the third year running The Today FM Ray D'Arcy Show are teaming up with SPAR and AAI to ask you to Join SPAR and Ray for 5K. 

Farranfore Maine Valley A.C with the assistance of Kerry County Board AAI are hosting the “Join SPAR and Ray for 5K” fun run/walk on Monday 25th March at 1pm. This is a series of lunch time runs in 5 Cities/Towns in 5 days and is for all levels of fitness.
We're encouraging anyone who wants a relatively easy way to improve their health to take to their feet and go from couch to 5k in a matter of months.

The Fun Run for all the family and will take place around the streets of Killarney. Following the race all participants will receive the Ray D'Arcy goody bag which includes a commemorative tee-shirt. We are working on the route maps at the moment and they will be posted below as soon as they are confirmed. 

The Ray D’Arcy show on today FM will be broadcasting live from Killarney on the run day from 9am to 12 noon. Ray D'Arcy will also be taking part in the run.

Munster Coaching Workshops in February

Coaching Workshops in Munster

Please find details below re up coming workshops in February in the South West. For all workshops you simply come along on the day and pay €5 at registration. All workshops are open to athletes and coaches aged 11+.

TIPPERARY - Moyne A.C
- Wednesday 13th February Hurdles Workshop at Moyne AC Clubhouse, Moyne Co Tipperary from 7-9pm. It will be run by RDO Colin Byrne.

- Wednesday 27th February Sprints Workshop at Moyne AC Clubhouse, Moyne Co Tipperary. It will be run by Munster Performance Squad Coach Shane McCormack.

CORK IT
- Thursday 14th February Road Running/Endurance Workshop at Cork IT 7-9pm. It takes place upstairs in the red brick building next to the track stand. This will be run by Steven Macklin and will be an open forum to discuss all things related to endurance running. It will cover both track, cross-country and road running and will be a chance to interact with other coaches in the room and discover new ideas etc.

- Wednesday 20th February Strength & Conditioning Workshop at Cork IT 7-9pm. It takes place upstairs in the red brick building next to the track stand. It will be run by Gordon Brett a S&C expert from Munster Rugby. It will focus on Functional Screening for Athletic Performance and Injury Prevention.

- Saturday 23rd February Athletics Leader Course at Cork IT Track 9am-5pm. Anyone interested must register/pay online at this link https://events.athleticsireland.ie/ps/event/listings?view=OTHER.

County Roads C'Ship - April 7th Caherciveen

 
Following the County Board AGM, the venue for this years county roads championship has been fixed for Sunday 7th April in Caherciveen at 12noon. The race will be hosted by Iveragh A.C.

Kenmare Bridge 10k Road Race - Sat 9th Feb 2013

There was a turnout of 105 adults and 80 kids for this 10km road race in South Kerry on  Saturday, the 9th of Feb 2013.

Munster U9 to U13 Indoor Championships - 2013

The Munster U/9 to U/13 Indoor Championships were held in Nenagh on  Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th February.  Their was a reasonable turnout for the Kerry Athletics clubs and all did very well.

National Masters Indoor C'Ships - 2013

Big numbers were the order of the day at the Woodie’s DIY National Masters Indoor championships held at the superb Athlone IT Arena today. There were races a-plenty, especially in the longer distances, as athletes set about achieving new PBs on the ultra-fast track and pleasant surroundings.

THE GOOD FRIDAY RUN - Killarney 29th March

The 2013 Good Friday Run 5 Miler takes place on Friday the 29th of March. This will be the fourth running of the event so head for Killarney town for what is a great event for walkers, joggers and runners of all levels. This is a 2 lap route through the town. The race sold out in advance in 2012 so get in early to make sure of your place.

Munster Roads Championships - March 10th


NORTH CORK AC will host the Munster 4 Mile road race championship  on Sunday March 10th in Newtownshandrum

Since the course is at the center of Munster  (close to Charleville) it is expected that a large number from all clubs in Munster will be in attendance. 
Cork North Athletics board clubs are set to help out with Marshalling on the day as the new board hopes to make use of the close proximity of the course within their area to field full teams in each category.

AAI Master and Intermediate Cross Country Championships



The Woodie’s DIY AAI Master, Intermediate & Juvenile Development Cross Country Championships took place in Gransha, Derry on Sunday, 3rd of February. The rain withheld for the majority of the event however underfoot conditions became very heavy as the afternoons action unfolded.

Gneeveguilla AC 5K... Race 2 Results

Race 2 of 4 of the Gneeveguilla AC 5K Road Race Series took place last Saturday, 2nd Feb. in Killarney. It was ideal conditions for the race, a perfect spring day.
With 155 runners, it was well up from last week.
