Club Notes Week Ending 14th July. 2019

European U23 Championships
A big squad of 42 athletes traveled to represent Ireland at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Gavle, Sweden (July 11-14). This represents the biggest team Athletics Ireland has ever sent to the European U23 Championships and reflects a policy of giving more athletes to enter the pathway in development championships.
David Kenny took to the roads of Gavle on what was a very hot afternoon. He judged his pace brilliantly to finish 9th in the men’s 20km race walk in a new personal best of 1:25:43. The winning time was 1:21, just 4 minutes ahead of David, who is still just 20 years of age, gaining valuable experience for the future to bridge the gap to the senior level. A great achievement in representing our club and country admirably.

Well done to Shauna McCarthy & Patrick Kearney who competed in the National Juvenile's on Saturday 13th July. No medals but they learnt a lot from their experience at national level.

International Children's Games
Tralee was represented at the International Children’s Games and Cultural Festival in Ufa, the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. Tralee will participate at the Games for the 14th year since 2005.
Aine O'Shea was competing at the athletics competitions. It was a great experience to Represent Ireland at an international stage and compete against other countries.

The third race of Gneeveguilla AC Mile series. Held in Knocknagree on the evening of Wednesday 10th July. Well done to David Culloty, Brendan Lynch & Jerome Foley for participating. Next race is in Ballydesmond on Wednesday 17th July at 7:30pm.
