David Kenny again started the month with another impressive performance setting
a new PB in the 20K walk in the World Athletics Race Walking Tour Event in the
Czech Republic. David knocked a massive 3 minutes off his best ever time,
finishing in 1 hr 19 min and 44 sec coming home in 3rd place.
This is just 22 seconds off the national record set by his coach and former World Champion Rob Heffernan. This times secures qualification for the world and European championships held later on this year. This time also left him in 6th place in the current world rankings. A few weeks later he sett a new Irish University’s Record when winning the 3K walk at the Intervarsity championships in Carlow with a time of 11.26.
Isaac and Ryan Vickers brought home medals from
the prestigious Leevale Open Sports in Cork.
The County Senior and Masters championships were held on the 24th April. In the master’s section Jim O Shea won the 100M, Long and High Jump titles. Arthur Fitzgerald won the 400m and 3000m titles. Orna O’Leary along with Sean and Aine O’Shea and won medals in senior Shot and Discus. Not to be outdone Eileen Myers won a medal in the Wight for distance.
April also saw the first training sessions in the new AstroTurf pitch
in Firies NS. This all-weather pitch is a fantastic facility for the club. Well
done to all who were involved in its development especially club members Jerome
Crowley and Joe Clifford.
