Club Notes Week Ending 11th Nov. 2018

Munster Senior & Juvenile UnEven ages Cross Country Championships.
Turnpike, Two Mile Borris in Tipperary was the setting for the Munster Senior & Juvenile UnEven ages Cross Country Championships. Held on Sunday 11th November It was a cold and showery day but the course was in very good condition which made for some very exciting juvenile races. Numbers were very good with well over one hundred in the younger races. Our club has seven juveniles competing over various age categories.
The  Vickers broothers, Ryan & Isaac put is some great performances with Ryan finishing is 17th place in the U9 750m. Isaac had a great race with getting a great start and was with the lead group from the start. He finished in a well deserved 31st place in the U11 1500m.
The four McCarthy sisters were all competing. Leah in the U9 750m was competing at Munster level for the very first time. She finished in 26th place out of a very large field.
Rhian McCarthy equally did well to be placed 31st in the U11 1500m.
Eabha McCarthy competing in the U13 2500m who was out of her comfort zone as she much prefers the shorter distances, did well to be placed 65th and produced a great sprint finish.
Shauna McCarthy, was in action in the U15 3500m. Shauna was sitting in the lead group of ten runners from the start. After the first 1500m lap the group was reduced to just six and Shauna was still settled in running well in control.  In the final 500m's there was an injection of pace where went with it. Placed in fourth position and 100m's to go, Shauna made use of a slight hill and upped the pace, she passed two athletes and was just pipped on the line to take second overall. A great performance, which sees Shauna qualifying for the Nationals.
Last up was Malachy Kirwan in the U15 Boys 3500m race. Malachy stook with the lead group for the first 1000m, placed 16th. He fell back to twenty sixth over the next 2K. But Malachy upped the gear and ran a super last 500m to finish in 17th overall. Again another great achievement.
We wish to thank all the parents and children who traveled on the day.
