Club Weekly Notes July 2017

FARRANFORE MAINE VALLEY Athletic Club
Well done to all the Boys and Girls who represented there schools well in the County Primary Schools Track & Field Championships during the week.

The Irish Life Health National Junior & U23 T&F Championships were held on Saturday 1st July in Tullamore. Rossa Foley, competing in the U23 category, was 3rd in the 35lb Weight For Distance with a throw of 7.11m. Rossa finished just outside the medals in 4th place for the Javelin (43.20m) & Triple Jump (12.07m).

The Irish Life Health National Masters T&F Championships were held on Sunday 2nd July in Tullamore. 
Jim O'Shea continues to shine with three individual medals in his O75 age category. Jim was first in the Long Jump (3.83m) and High Jump (1.25m). He took silver in the 100m sprint (15.30sec). 
Maria McCarthy competing in the O40 category was second in the 3000m (10:29.90) and fourth in the 1500m (5:05.41). 
Jerome Foley finished fourth in the O50 400m (60.07sec) and fifth in the 800m (2:17.84)
Sean O'Shea was 2nd in Shot, third in the Weight For Distance (5.04m) and third in the Discus (30.51m). 
Dermot Dineen competing for the very first time at National level took part in the O35 1500m distance. Dermot finished in ninth place overall in a highly competitive field. He completed the distance in 4:36.67 which is a personal best performance. Well done.

The Kerry County Juvenile Championships for U9 to U16 age groups will take place on Wednesday July 5th at 6pm and Saturday 15th July at 11am . Full list of events post in Kerry Athletics website and on Facebook. Preregistration required, so please contact Club Secretary, Mary 085 1909509.

Club Training:
The holidays are here so all training sessions are finished for the summer. But we will be back the end of August for the start of cross country season!!!! Best of luck to all our athletes for the rest of the season you are well prepared.
