BED TO 2MILE in JUNE

Farranfore MaineValley AC are promoting family fitness this summer.
We want to promote wellness & healthiness, while teaching the whole family that running and physical fitness can be fun and self rewarding.
For the month of June we have put together a 3 week program to bring together families and individuals to take them from the bed to running up to 2 miles over the month of June.

Coaching will be carried out by a qualified coach with many years of experience in athletics.
Each session will last for 45 minutes. 30 mins of run / walking intervals to gradually build you up to jogging 2 miles. 15 mins of conditioning to help strengthen the body.

Fee: €2
Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday @ 9:00am in Firies GAA Grounds, Farranfore Village.

County Primary Schools ..Results..2014

This years County Primary schools were held in Castleisland on Saturday 24th May 2014. Unfortunately the weather conditions were not very nice. In fact it felt like a winters day with the wind and rain.
Well done to everyone who competed. We had many of of young athletes competing and they all did very well in representing their schools.

The County Masters Track & Field Championships were held on Sunday 25th May 2014 in conjunction with Day 2 of the Juveniles T&F.

This year we saw an increase in the number of Master athletes competing in the track & field events. This is mainly down to our Fit4Life groups in each athletics club. it is great to see the hard work of the coaches and participants paying off.

County Juvenile Track & Field C'Ships DAY2..2014

Day 2 of the County Juvenile Track & Field Championships were held in Castleisland last Sunday 25th May 2014. Thankfully the rain held off and it turned out to be a very entertaining day. Thanks to all the organisers and volunteers who worked hard in getting through a packed full of events.

A special thanks to all our coaches and parents who got involved in the children's training needs over the last few months. Without your help and support events like this would not be possible.
Tralee harriers were the overall Juvenile winners club this year. Farranfore MaineValley AC was in 6th place overall.

Rossa Foley  U18: 1st 100mH (23.74); 3rd Discus (26.16m); 1st High Jump (1.5m); 2nd Triple jump (10.94m); 2nd Shot (8.58m)
Micheál O'Shea who has just joined our club competed in the Junior 1500m race. He won silver in a time of 5:12.36. Well done Micheál.
David Kenny won gold in the U16 2000m Walk in a time of 9:52.56. This is a new county championship record.

Juvenile Training 23rd May...CANCELLED

Juvenile Training scheduled for Friday 23rd May @ 7pm has been cancelled. This is because a large number of our juveniles are competing in the Primary School Sports on Sat 24th and the County T&F Championships Day 2 on Sunday 25th.

Training will resume again the following Friday.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The Kerry AAI Primary School Sports Day will be held at An Riocht Track, Castleisland on Saturday May 24th 2014. The sports will commence at 11am.

See list below of the Primary School Juveniles who will represent the Farranfore Maine Valley A.C. district with their associated event. These juveniles were selected winners of the District Primary Schools sports day that was held at Listry GAA grounds on the 8th May last.
Stickers with childs Name, Class & Event have been sent to the relevant schools for distribution by teachers.
Please ensure that everyone is at the track at least for 10:40am so that the children can be given their instructions.

National Track & Field league 2014..Round 1..results

The National Track and Field League began on Sunday, 18th of May 2014 with leading clubs and counties countrywide battling it out for a coveted place in the National League Final in August. There is a record number of 63 teams entered between the premier and division one categories.
The Men & Women's Premier Kerry teams were in action in Waterford.

From our club we had Daniel Clifford & Maria McCarthy taking part. Both did very well in their events.
Daniel was 2nd in the Hammer (33.25 m) and 1st in the Discus (40.01m)
Maria was 3rd in the 3000m (10.20.29 ) and 3rd in the 800m (2.28.50 ). Maria was also part of the 4x400m Relay where they finished in 5th place.

Kerry Women currently lie bottom of the table with only 56 points
Kerry Men are 11th place overall with 70 points.

The Munster Schools Track & Field took place on Saturday 17th May in beautiful weather in CIT Cork.
There were some exceptional individual performances, including several new records.
Well done to all those students who competed for their Kerry Schools. There were some very good performances.

- There will be a High Jump workshop taking place on Wednesday 14th May from 7-9pm at the Dr Pat O Callaghan Sports Complex in Clonmel Co Tipperary. The cost is €5 payable at registration 6.45-7pm and is open to all athletes & coaches aged 11+. It will be run by Junior High Performance Manager & Director of Coaching Jacqui Freyne.

Annerville 10k road race, Clonmel - Sun 11th May 2014

It might not be a race that we would normally mention on our blog, but we have reason to do so this year.
The Annerville 10Km is organised by Tipperary club, Clonmel AC. This is a very popular race and it attraced over 350 athletes.
Clonmel is the home town of Maria McCarthy, while on a week-end break home to visit family and friends she took the oportunity to compete is this local race.
Here is an extract from Clonmel AC report on the race:

"Maria McCarthy (Farranfore Maine Valley) took up the early pace and ran very well to win a great race in her home town when finishing strongly in 37 mins 16 secs, great performance. Then we had Angela McCann (Clonmel) also running very well when 2nd in 37 mins 33 secs with Dymphna Ryan (Dundrum) 3rd in 38 mins 15 secs."

An Riocht - Kingdom Come 10Mile & 5K Road Race.. 2014

The fourth year of the Lee Strand Kingdom Come 10Miler & 5K road races organised by An Riocht AC were held on Sunday 11th May 2014 in Castleisland. The 5k race attracted a field of 326 runners while there were 150 in the 10 mile event.

Very well done to Caitriona Barry who won the ladies 10mile in a great time of 66:33. Michelle Hoare also improving substantially in taking 3rd place with a time of 72:29. Great performance by you both.
We also had plenty of winners in their respective categories with Verners Tess 2nd O40, Ger Ladden 1st O50 with a very impressive time of 63:12. Eileen Egan 1st in the O40 womens category. Aidan McCarthy finished 18th overall with a time of 67:59. Aidan Benson also competed and finished with a time of 73:53

Arthur Fitzgerald was 2nd in the 5K race with a time of 16:56.

Munster Junior & U23 Track and Field Championships 2014


The Munster Juvenile & Youth Combined Events Track & field Championships were held on Monday 5th May 2014 in Waterford RSC

Following her successful wins in the county championships on Saturday 3rd May Kayleigh Cronin competed in a number of the Munster Junior category field events.
Silver in the Shot Put with a distance of 10.38m
Silver in the Discus with a distance of 39.54m

Kayleigh has transferred from Killarney's Spa Muckross AC where she had a very successful juveniles career in the field events both nationally and internationally. Farranfore Maine Valley AC are very happy to have Kayleigh as a member of our club and we wish her all the best in the future.

MILE DASH CHALLENGE 2014...Results

Well done to all who took part in Farranfore Maine Valley AC Mile Dash Challenge to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the breaking of the 4min. mile record by Sir Roger Bannister on 6th May 1954.
