Munster Masters and Juvenile "B" C'ships 2012

The Munster Masters and Juvenile "B" Championships 2012 were held on Sunday 2nd December at New market on Fergus, Co. Clare. Following an very bad few weeks of heavy rain the conditions were the worst we have seen so far this year. Their was not a blade of grass to be seen by the end of the racing events.
However, the day went off well without any major incidents, so well done to all the organisers.

First up for our club was Shauna McCarthy in the U9 race. Shauna ran a great 750m lap of the muddy course to finish in a very strong 5th place. This was Shauna's first individual Munster medal so she was very proud.

In the ladies Masters 4000m race we had Maria McCarthy and Caitriona Barry competing. Along side them to make up the O35 county team was Niamh o'Sullivan and Mary O'Connor of An Riocht AC.
Maria was the first woman to finish and took 1st in the O35 category. Niamh O'Sullivan finished just behind to take the O50 category gold. Caitriona Barry ran a great race to finish in 10th place overall and 4th in her category. Mary O'Connor also ran a good race under poor conditions and finished 5th in her category. As a team they finshed 2nd so took silver in the O35.

By the time we got to the mens 7000m race the ground now resembled a badly ploughed field. Here we had George McCarthy taking part in the O40 category. This category is one of the most competitive categories in the masters race with some top runners in the country taking part. The county also fielded a team for the O35 and O50 categories.
First home for Kerry was Robert Purcell (Gneeveguilla) in an impressive 8th place, taken 3rd in his category. Just behind him was George in 9th, 4th in his category.
The O50 Kerry county team got Bronze. Well done all
