Racewalking Masterclass & Cross-Country Squad Day
A Race Walking Masterclass and a Cross-Country Squad Day will take place at Cork IT Track on Saturday 17th November. This promises to be a unique event as in attendance will be Olympic athlete Robert Heffernan and 3.55 miler and former NCAA star David McCarthy. The cost for attending is €5 person. Details below for each event:
Race Walking Masterclass
Dont miss out on the chance to learn more about Race Walking from Robert Heffernan, Liam O Reilly and renound Spanish coach Jaconto Garzon, our special international guest coach. This masterclass is open to all athletes and coaches aged 10+. Athletes from clubs/schools all over Ireland are welcome to attend.
10am: Registration at CIT Track in the main athletics stand and the cost is €5 per person.
10.30 -11.30am: Theory session on how to coach kids and how they built a successfull Racewalking school in Guadix Spain.
11.30am-12.30pm: Pratical session on the track with Jacinto Garzon (Spanish Coach), Robert Heffernan (Irish Olympic Athlete) and Liam O Reilly (Irish Olympic team coach).
12.30-1pm: Q&A session with Robert Heffernan for athletes while coaches talk with Jacinto Garzon and Liam O Reilly.
Munster XC Squad Day
Following on from a very successful 1st Munster XC Squad day at Banna Beach in September, a 2nd Munster Squad Cross-Country session will take place on Saturday 17th November at Cork IT Track. This is open to all endurance athletes in Munster that have achieved the following criteria:
1) 2012 ages u14 (born 1999) - u20 (born 1993)
2) Have finished top 20 in a Munster 'A' Cross-Country Championship in 2011 or 2012 in school or club championships
3) Have finished top 5 in a Munster 'A' Outdoor T&F Championship distance event (800m/1500m/3000m/5000m/

All athletes are encouraged to attend and also their personal coaches. Athletes should meet at Cork IT Track stand at 10.00am sharp for registration and bring €5 with them. It will be a great privilege to have one of Irelands greatest distance runners in attendance on the day in 3.55 miler David McCarthy from Waterford. The timetable for the XC squad session is as follows:
- 10.00am- Registration Cork IT Track Stand
- 10.20am- Athletes split into various groups
- 10.30am- Warm up
- 11.15am- Start of session on Track
- 12.30pm- Warm Down
- 12.45pm- Q&A session with David McCarthy in Track Stand
- 1.15pm- Finish
