County Juvenile Relays, Junior & Senior Cross Country 2012

The 2012 County Juvenile Relays, Junior and Senior Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday 4th November in Killarney. The conditions were very wet and muddy following a week of prolonged rain. We were lucky that the day stayed relatively dry during the championships.



Well done to everyone who turned up on the day and participated. Our club athletes performed exceptionally well. Best of luck to our juveniles who will be competing in the Munster XC next week-end in Waterford.

U9 girls team relay took Gold
U11 Boys team relay took Bronze
U11 girls team relay took Bronze
U 15 Boys relay took Silver

Well done to Casandra Myers who took bronze in the Junior race.


In the Senior Womens race it was clear from the onset that the first place position would be between our own Maria McCarthy and Niamh O'Sullivan of An Riocht. Front position changed hands a number of times throughout the race and into the last lap Niamh had a twenty meter lead on Maria. However Maria made a sprint on the last one hundred meters to literally beat Niamh on the finish line to take the first position. It was a very entertaining race and a great race. Well done Maria. Praise to Caitriona Barry who also togged out for her club.

Best of luck to Niamh and Maria who will be representing Ireland in the British & Irish Masters cross country next week-end in Belfast.

In the Senior race George McCarthy took the bronze medal with James Doran (An Riocht) 1st and Cian Murphy (Iveragh) 2nd place.
Ger Ladden also competed and ran a good strong race. Well done to you both.
