Kerry Road championships 2012- March 17th

The Kerry Road Championships 2012 were hosted by Gneeveguilla AC in Killarney on Saturday 17th March. Their was a great turnout for this annual event. As usual it was a very competitive race in both the men's and women's events.
Gneeveguilla laid out a flat 5Km route which proved to be very popular and alot of athletes achieved their PB on the day.

In the Senior Men's, Ed Murphy (Gneeveguilla) was first over the line with a time of 15:31. Just a few meters behind was reigning champion for seven years Cian Murphy (Iveragh) 15:41. Donal O'Callaghan (An Riocht) took third place 15:58.
Gneeveguilla took first and second in the team spots with Farranfore/maine Valley third.

In the Senior Women's, Niamh O'Sullivan (An Riocht) was first home 17:41, followed in second place was Ann Marie Costello (Gneeveguilla) 18:05 and Catherine Kiely (Gneeveguilla) was third 19:12.
Ríocht took the honours in the team section followed by Gneeveguilla and the second Ríocht team in third spot.

Simon Mangan, Gneeveguilla, and Síobhan Daly, Ríocht, were both impressive when winning their respective novice titles.

Farranfore Maine Athletes did very well in all their ccategories considering we were missing some of our top athletes due to injury.
George McCarthy was first home for the club in 8th place (16:41). George took gold in the O35 category.
John Flahive (home from the UK) finished well to take silver in the O45 category (17:21).
With the help of team mates Tadhg Mannix and Aidan Benson, Farranfore took bronze in the Senior Team category and also bronze in the Masters Team category. Well done lads.

In the women's Caitriona Barry was the fifth lady to cross the line and took gold in the O35 category (19:55). Caitriona has just recently joined the club, so very well done.
Cassandra Myers ran a great race to take gold in the Junior Ladies category.

Very well done to all our athletes, may the success continue!!
