The European masters Championships were held in Upice, Czech republic from May 23rd -26th 2013. First competition was the10Km and Half Marathon with more than 300 competitors taking part in somewhat cold weather. The other one ultra completions was Men Race Walk 30 km and Women on 20 km which were organized in the neighboring city Havlovice.
Congratulations to the small band of Irish Athletes, numbering 6 in all, who ventured into Upice, Czech Rep. over the weekend and returned with a hugely impressive haul of a total of 8 medals.
Individual wins in the M45s for Mick Traynor ½ marathon & Gerry Ryan 10km. These 2 Athletes together with Damien Martin also won Team Gold in the 10k plus the CC relays. Mick also won ind. silver in the 10k behind Gerry, with Damien finishing 4th overall in the half & 6th in the 10k.
Sean McMullen M65 won individual silver in the 30km Race Walk.
Very well done to Pat O’Shea (Iveragh AC) M60 taking individual bronze and also assisting the M45 team to silver in the half marathon.
Sean Pender M55 also performed well in the Race Walks.
