Kerry County Road Championships 2013

This years county road championships were held in Caherciveen on Sunday 7th April. The 5K road race was hosted by Iveragh AC. The route was in and out with a small loop in between.
It was a very windy day which made running the 2K to 4.2K mark very difficult for the runners where they had to face the wind with a gradual climb thrown in. Hence the slower than normal finish times.
It was a race where the athletes with shear strength and endurance will overcome the fast paced athletes.

John Barrett from Gneeveguilla AC was the first male to finish and was presented with  the Dinny O'Connor Perpetual Trophy. Maria McCarthy from Farranfore Maine Valley continued her good form and domination to take the title was the first senior lady home, well ahead of her clubmate Caitriona Barry.

From our own club:

Arthur Fitzgerald finished in 6th place

George McCarthy was 8th overall and took gold in the O40 category

Caitriona Barry was 2nd lady home overall and took gold in the O40 category

Richard O'Brien was overall and took bronze in the O40 category

Michael O'Connor took silver in the O60 category

The mens teams also got bronze in the senior and bronze in the masters categories.
