The final weekend of the Track and Field season took place
on the weekend of the 13th with the All-Ireland Masters Championships in
Tullamore and the All-Ireland Community Games in Carlow.
In Tullamore a minutes silence was held for the late Eddie
Mulcahy who graced the event on many occasions.
After that it was into the action. We had 3 athletes
competing. Jim O’Shea completed an expected treble winning the 100m, Long Jump
and High Jump. Michael O Connor won the 3K walk. Arthur Fitzgerald took a break
from his duties with the Kerry teams to finish 3rd in the 400m.
Down the road in Carlow we had 6 athletes representing Kerry
in the National Community Games finals. All preformed magnificently bringing
home medals.
First up was Kevin O’Shea in the U-14 Javelin throwing big throw
in the 1st round to finish in second place. While this was going on
his best friend Isaac Vickers was in the 800, despite trailing by 10 metres
with 200 to go, he put in a massive finish to win comfortably in the end.
Not long afterwards younger brother Ryan ran in the 100 m U-12.
He showed a clean pair of heels winning comfortably for a second gold medal for
the family.
Later in the day Rachel Boyle and Roisin Daly running in the
relay. A spectacular last leg by Roisin saw them bring home the silver medal.
The final event of the day saw Niamh O’Shea save her best
throw until last throwing a metre and a half further than before in winning the
bronze medal.
David Kenny was selected for Ireland to run in the European
championships in Munich. Unfortunately injury Prevented him from competing,
however it shouldn’t take awa from some of the tremendous performances he put
in over the spring\summer
As usual we had a number of performers in the local parkruns
Tiernan Lynch, Michael O’Connor, Liam and Matthew Smyth and Cian and Fionn
Hogan all running in Tralee, Killarney and Inch.
