Club Weekly Notes Week end 30th Sept 2018

Novice & Juvenile Even Ages XC
Conditions were ideal for the first Cross Country Competition of the season. The Novice & Juvenile even ages
was held in Killarney on Sunday 30th and hosted by Killarney Valley AC. 
The first race of the morning was the Womens Novice. Three of our athletes competed and did extremely well.
The start of the day was Marie McKenna who led for the whistle to comfortably win the Novice Women Championship. Not far behind was  Grace Crowley in 5th and 
Pierrette Scroope in 6th. They won club team silver.
In the Mens Novice we had Aidan McCarthy in 7th and Brendan Lynch 9th. Not enough competitors to make up a team..
Next up was the U10 Girls 1000m. Well done to Jessie Lynch who won the race with Rachel Boyle 15th & Leah McCarthy 22nd. 
U10 Boys Isaac Vickers was 2nd, his brother Ryan was 7th. The rest of the team members who got club silver was Kevin O'Shea, Jack Teahan, Peter Herlihy & Evan Spillane
The U12 Girls 2000m was a very competitive and exciting race with a fierce battle on for the top six positions. Mairead Walsh was 4th, Rhian McCarthy 6th. They helped by the following to win gold in club team. Grainne Costello 9th, Tessa McGuigan, Meabh Dineen & Niamh O'Shea
U12 Boys Tiarnan Lynch was 5th and John Sexton 7th. 
U14 Girls 3000m had a very exciting finish when Eabha McCarthy was placed in 7th place with 200m's to go and kicked with a very impressive sprint to finish in 2nd place overall. Her club mates Doireann O'Shea and Sadhbh Teahan made up the club team to take silver. 
Cormac Costello was our only Boys U14 where he finished in 8th place. 
 In the U16 Girls 4000m, Shauna McCarthy did well to win the race comfortably. Natasha Myers also ran and was placed 9th. 
Cian Spillane had a great race in the U16 boys where he was part of the lead group for most part of the race and into the last lap he opened up a good gap to win gold. Malachy Kirwan equally had a great race to pick off two positions towards the end to finish in 5th place and Conall O'Mahony was 7th. They won gold for the club team. Well done to all, especially all our new athletes competing for the first time.

Next XC Race is on Sunday 7th October in Caherciveen. First race will be Women Intermediate & Masters, followed by Mens Intermediate & Masters. This will be followed by U9's, U11's,.. U19. We ask all juveniles to be there for 10:45am to register and warm-up.  Directions to Venue..When entering the town from Killorglin side continue on until you come to old library at cross roads. Turn right onto Bridge Street, continue on the Castlequinn Road. Follow this road over the bridge and you will see the football field on left. Recycling Racing Shoes:
Anyone who has cross country or track spikes which are no longer required could you give into committee member during training. We can recycle to other athletes.

Juvenile Training: Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 6pm in Farranfore GAA grounds. Open to all registered juveniles aged 8yrs (Born 2010) and upwards. This will be in preparation for the Cross Country Championships  €2 per session.
Secondary School /  Senior training on every Thursday at 6:30pm in GAA grounds Farranfore. This is endurance training for cross country preparation. €2 club member, €4 non club member  
Maria's Strength, Endurance & Flexibility Exercise Classes commences on Tuesday October 2nd starting @ 7pm at the Sports Hall in Farranfore. €5 per class. Suitable for all levels from secondary school upwards.
New Members also welcome.

Club Weekly Notes Week end 23rd Sept 2018


Good weather conditions for the Charleville Half Marathon on Sunday 23rd Sept. This is a very popular event which attracts many top athletes from around the country. John Travers (Donore Harriers) was the overall winner in a time of just over 64mis. Dermot Dineen, competing in his third half marathon of the season, finished is a time of 81mins. Well done.

We had the final Sunday of our Juvenile training on trails. All twenty seven worked really hard negotiating the wood trails and undulating hills. They are now very well prepared for the county cross country championships. First race is on Sunday 30th Sept. in the Demesne Killarney (next to playground) with even ages. We ask all juveniles to be there for 11am to register and warm-up. First juvenile race will be U10 Girls, then followed by U10 Boys, U12,.

Club Notes Week Ending 19th Sept. 2018

An Riocht AC 5K race two took place in Castleisland on Friday 7th Sept. Numbers were well up from race one with close to two hundred taking part. Arthur Fitzgerald was placed seventh with a time of 17:12. Aidan McCarthy was 12th overall in a time of 18:11. Cian Spillane was first junior in first U16 (18:31), Brendan Lynch 20th (18:53), Caitriona Barry was third overall in ladies category with a finish time of 20:23. Final race in the series will be on Friday 14th Sept. with a start time of 7pm.

The County Cross Country Fixtures have been set for this year. Changes to note is that the Women's race starts at 11am immediately followed by the men's race. Juveniles will follow with an estimated start time of 12noon. This is to allow more volunteers to support the juvenile races. Events will be on three consecutive weeks starting from Sept. 30th. See fixtures for further details.

Jumps Workshop:
Full Jumps Workshop for Long Jump (Pat Power), High Jump (Barry Pender), Triple Jump (David Murphy) & Pole Vault (Eamon Flanagan) on Sunday 23rd September in Templemore Track @ 11am. For athletes aged 12+ years, all are welcome, 5 euro per athlete. Please contact Pat Power at jumps@athleticsireland.ie to register.

Munster Schools Combined Events Championships, Wednesday 3rd October in Nenagh Indoor Stadium @ 11am. Details have gone out to all Munster Schools today (3rd September). Timetable here. Rules here. Closing date for entries is Friday 28th September.

Club Weekly Notes Week end 2nd Sept. 2018


The first of our juvenile cross country training sessions took place on Sunday morning. Thanks to all the children and parents who turned out on what was a very wet session.Thanks to all our helpers.


Kerryman Dingle Full & Half Marathon
The tenth Annual Kerryman Dingle Full & Half Marathon took place on Saturday first of September. We had plenty of athletes competing in the half, 21Km, distance. 
Dermot Dineen was first crossing the line in a time of 1:26:15. 
Aidan Cahill was delayed at the start line due to traffic conjestion. His net time was an impressive 1:24:14. Close behind was 
Cathal Kirwan in a time of 1:27:40. This is a new personal best for Cathal, well done. 

In the Full marathon 42.2Km distance, Julie Deane completed the grueling course in a time of 3:43:11. She was fifth lady overall and third in her category with another personal best time. Congratulations to you all.

An Riocht AC 5K
An Riocht AC 5K race series kicked off in Castleisland on Friday 31st Aug. With 110 participants, Aidan McCarthy was 5th overall in a time of 18:15. 
Caitriona Barry was second overall in ladies category with a finish time of 20:41. Race two of the three race series will be on Friday 7th Sept. with a start time of 7pm.

Puck Warriors 5K
A Fit Body Gym, based in Killorglin had race two of their 5K Road Race Series. Well done to Dermot Dineen who took podium position for the second week in a time of 17:51. Second was Brendan Lynch (18:19). Marie McKenna did very well also to be first lady finisher in a time of 19:31. Next race is on Wednesday 12th @ 7pm.

Coaching / WorkShops
Endurance Running Workshop in Charleville, Co. Cork on Saturday 8th September from 11am to 4pm in Charleville Park Hotel. See all the details here. See List of upcoming AAI Coaching courses here. Anyone interested in further developing their coaching skills to help out at club training the club will pay the registration fee for any courses.
