Club Weekly Notes Week end 19th Aug 2018

It was an action packed week of athletics with our Juveniles, Senior & Master athletes competing at various National Events. Well done to everyone on their great achievements.

National Masters Track & Field
The track and field season concluded on Saturday last with the Irish Life Health Masters Championships in Tullamore Stadium. Once again there was another massive entry to this year’s Masters competition. For the Masters,it was the last event before the World Masters Championships which begins on September 5th in Malaga, Spain. Our club had three athletes competing in various events. 
First up was Jim O'Shea competing in the O75 category. Jim collected three individual medals,Gold in the High Jump (1.20m), Gold in Long Jump (3.79m) and Silver in the 100m sprint (15.96sec). 
Jerome Foley in the O55 category ran a strong 400m to take bronze in a time of 59.78sec.
Sean O'Shea equally did very well where he picked up silver in the Hammer (26.66m), placed fourth in the Discus (30.14m) and fifth in the shot (10.17m).


National League Final
The National League Final was held in Tullamore Stadium on Sunday 19th August. Congratulations to the Division 1 Kerry Men's team who were second the league with 107points, a mere two points off winning club Nenagh Olympic AC. 
From our club competing was David Kenny who got maximum points in the 3K Race Walk (13:25.74). 
Sean O'Shea had a busy weekend when he was placed second in the Shot (10.72m) and Hammer (29m) earning fourteen points. 
Rossa Foley was placed second in the Javelin (48.25m) earning seven points. Congratulations to the whole county team and selectors, a great achievement. 
The Kerry ladies team finished in fifth place overall.


National Athletic Community Games
The National Community Games Finals were held in University of Limerick over the week-end. Congratulations to Cian Spillane who won Gold in the U14 800m. Ryan Vickers did very well also to win silver in the U8 100m. Patrick Kearney finished seventh in the U16 Discus. Well done to everyone who represented Kerry in the Games. It is a great achievement.

David Kenny competed in the 3000m Race Walk at the Manchester Meet on Wednesday 15th August. David raced a great time of 12:44.79. He was placed in fifth place out of a very competitive field.
Last week Daragh Casey competed in the National Half Marathon Championships held in Dublin. Daragh finished the 13mile distance in a time of 1:33. Darragh struggled for the second half of the race due to illness. It was great to complete the race when in poor health. Darragh will be heading overseas on work placement. We wish him all the best and hope to see him back wearing the Farranfore singlet very soon.

Club Training
As the summer break is coming to a close we will be starting up jevenile and senior training in the next few weeks. This training will be mainly in preparation for the Cross Country Season which will be starting first week in October. We will post training time shortly.
