Alytsus, Lithuania International Race Walk Festival
David Kenny was in Alytsus, Lithuania competing in the International race Walk Festival. Now in its 44th year, it is recognised throughout the world as an area for race walking champions. Some of the famous racers have started their sports career in the Alytus’ festival. On Friday 8th David competed in the 10Km U20 race. With temperatures at over thirty degrees it was a testing race. However David did well to finish in fifth place in a time of 47:53. The winner, from Trance completed the 10K in 44:07. On the following day, things went much better for David when he finished in second place in a time of 21mins for the U20 5Km. Also last week, David was awarded The prestigious title of "Fresher of the Year" for 2018 from CIT Athletics Club. A Sports Scholarship Recipient for CIT, David was nominated for this award for not only his outstanding achievement in his first year at CIT but also for his unwavering commitment to training and the CIT Athletics Club. A special mention must also go to his coach and mentor Michael O'Connor for his continued support in Davids road to race walking success.
