Munster Senior, Junior & Juvenile Uneven Age XC C'Ships 2016

On Sunday November 13th 2016 in was the Juveniles turn, when we had a small number competing in the Munster Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships held in the Limerick Race Course. The course was wet and muddy following the previous day's torrential downpour. There was a massive turnout for all munster clubs with over one hundred juveniles competing in most races.

First up was the U9 Girls 750m race. Rhian McCarthy was in the lead bunch from the start and maintained here composure and continuously made great head ground to finish in 8th place with her very first individual Munster Medal. Her teammate, Grainne Costello, found the muddy course tough to contend with but did fantastically to finish in high spirits.
Eabha McCarthy competed in the U11 1500m race. Eabha finished in the top 50 out of over one hundred competitors, which was very good.
Shauna McCarthy competed in the U13 2500m race. After 500m a gap was opening up where the front group of runners continued to keep the pace up. Shauna was amongst these ten runners. As the race progressed, Shauna continued to pass, with 500m to go she was now in fourth place. Shauna did very well to hold onto fourth place with a sprint to the finish line. Like her sister, Shauna won individual bronze and will represent Munster in the Nationals.
In the U14 2500m Boys race we had three competing. Cian Spillane, following his dominance in the County Championships, was part of the top group of runners from the start. Sitting back in second spot, Cian waited until the last 300m where he upped the pace to take the lead. The pace was too much for the opposition and finished to take gold. Conall O'Mahony finished strong in 40th place with Cormac Costello not far behind.

Niamh De Hora was our only athlete competing in the Senior Race. They had to contend with 8000m, 4 laps, of what was a very muddy course by now. Niamh ran well to finish in sixteenth place out of thirty six competitors. She was the third Kerry athlete and Kerry team finished in fourth place, just 3 points short of third spot. Well done to everyone who competed and to the Munster Cross Country team for organising such a fine event.
