County senior Track & Field C'Ships 2016

The County Senior Track & Field Championships were held on Sunday 15th May in Castleisland. Weather conditions were ideal for this years event. However the turnout was well down from previous years.
An Riocht AC retained the Quill Cup by being top points score in the men's competitions.
Our club fared well finishing in 3rd place with all our points coming from the field events.

The highlight of the day was from Rossa Foley. Rossa was crowned new champion in the Javelin as Patsy O'Connor from Tralee Harriers surrendered the County senior javelin title after 41 years as Champion. Rossa claimed the title with a personal best throw of 42.43m, with centimeters between both athletes. He was also 1st in triple jump with a new pb of 12 meters & 3rd in the Hammer with a throw of 15.55m.
James Nagle was 1st in the Weight for distance (6.45m), 2nd in the Shot (12.05m),
John Coleman was 2nd in the Hammer (30.43m)
Sean O'Shea was 2nd in the Discus (32.16m), 3rd in Javelin (35.27m), 3rd in Shot (10.45m)

One of our other up and coming stars is Leanne Cronin who did exceptionally well in all her field events picking up 4 individual medals. She continues to improve each season.  1st in the Javelin (11.31m), 2nd in the Discus (19.98m), 3rd in the Hammer (29.43m), 3rd in Shot (6.86m)

George McCarthy & Garvin Cronin competed in the 5000m distance. This was Garvin's first ever track race, so well done for taking part and getting some valuable experience. George was placed 5th & Garvin 6th.
