Deepest Sympathy

The death has taken place of Mary Lynch (nee Walsh) of Carrigadrohid, Coachford, Co. Cork. Mary was the daughter of Catherine and George Walsh.
George Walsh was a native of Springmount, Farranfore, born in 1899. He was an outstanding athlete, winning gold in the Hammer in AAA Championships in White City, London in 1932. The event was the equivalent of the European Athletics Championships and attracted athletes from all over the continent. He has the distinction of beating double Olympian Dr Pat O'Callaghan on two occasions.

Mary and her husband, Jim, presented a Perpetual Cup to the club in memory of her father, "The George Walsh Memorial Cup". The cup is presented to the outstanding young thrower in the club each year.
We extend our sincere sympathy to her husband, family, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
George Walsh

Sympathy is also extended to Jerry Horgan on the death of his aunt, Elizabeth Breen, Beaufort and to James O'Driscoll and family on the recent death of his father, Jim O'Driscoll.
