County Juvenile & Master T&F C'Ships 2015 - Program

The County Juvenile & Masters T&F Championships will be held over 2 days (Sat 9th & Sun 10th May) with different events catered for on each day.

All county championship competitions require that we give names of athletes competing and their chosen events at least 5 days before competition date to county board organisers. It is important that if you wish to enter in events you notify us at training or txt club secretary, Mary 087-9881919 before Monday 4th May.

Singlets
For competitions athletes are required to wear club our singlet. We have a system whereby you can purchase a singlet for €10 and when the child out grows it you can return and we will exchange with a larger size. If you do not have a singlet already please arrange to collect at training by contacting Jerome Crowley on 086-8174303

Gneeveguilla AC Open Day Sports Results…2015

Gneeveguilla AC hosted their annual Juvenile Open Sports T&F Day on Sunday 26th April at An Riocht Track, Castleisland. The day went off very well, so thanks to Gneeveguilla AC organisers and volunteers. This was a great opportunity to get some competitive events in before the county juvenile T&F c'ships in two weeks time.

The sun shone brightly on our young athletes who represented the club. There were some great performances from everyone with plenty of podium positions.
We were represented by:
Grainne, Kian, & Cormac Costello. Jack & Kimberley O'Brien. Leah, Rhian, Eabha & Shauna McCarthy. Diarmuid & Malachy Kirwan. Cian Spillane, Liath Lenahan & Siofra Foley.

County Juvenile Track & Field C'Ships 2015

We had a great turnout to our Juvenile Training last night in preparation for the County Track & field Championships and regional community games. We covered all specific events: Sprints, Distance, Throws & Jumps. Thanks to all our coaches and helpers for their continued support.

The County T&F Juvenile C'ships are held over 2 days (Sat 9th & sun 10th May) with different events catered for on each day. There is no registration on the day, all juveniles must pre-register their events with the club before Wednesday May 6th.

Below is a provisional list of the events. You can enter as many events in your age category as you wish. We will take registration on the training nights or you can txt. club secretary (Mary) 087-9881919. Keep an eye on our website & facebook for more information closer to the time

Sprints/Hurdles Workshop Apr 22nd

A Sprints/Hurdles Workshop will take place on Wednesday 22nd April 7-9pm at An Riocht AC Track in Castleisland. The cost of the workshop is €5 per person payable on the night at registration 6.40-6.55pm with a 7pm sharp start time. There is no need to book a place, just show up on the night. The workshop is open to all athletes and coaches aged 10+ and will be run by Paul Byrne.

Paul is an elite-level hurdler from Co. Laois, who specialises in the 400m hurdles. He represented Ireland at the 2011 European Under-23 Championships in Ostrava, reaching the semi-finals. He holds the Irish Best for the 300m hurdles with a clocking of 36.88. At the 2014 Irish National Championships, he claimed the silver medal in the 400m hurdles. His PB of 51.29 ranks him 8th on the Irish all-time list.

Gneeveguilla AC will host their Annual Open Sports T&F Day on Sunday 26th April, starting at 1pm in Castleisland Track. Always a great turnout and a good time in preparation for the County Juvenile T&F on May 9th & 10th.

Kerry Athletics Annual Awards

The Kerry Athletics Annual Awards Ceremony was held at the Listowel Arms on Saturday April 11th. We had four athletes who were awarded for their achievements in 2014.
Rossa Foley & Robert Campbell received the club awards. Rossa won individual medals in various T&F events such as sprints, hurdles, jumps & throws at county and munster level. Robert won individual medals at county, munster and national level in the Javelin and Hammer.


Kayleigh Cronin received the award for best Junior in field athletics. Kayleigh is a very talented young athlete and specialises in the throws. She has won National titles at U19 and senior level for the Discus with throws of close to 45m.

Maria McCarthy received the award for best Master in Cross Country & Roads. Maria was part of the Kerry Women’s Cross Country team to win county team medals in National Intercounty, Intermediate & Novice. Maria also won the Munster Masters XC title and medalled in national master T&F Championships.

Caitriona Barry was part of the Kerry Women’s Cross Country team and received recognition for her success at the awards.

Athletics Ireland Spring Throws - 29th March 2015 - Athlone I.T

The National Spring Throws competitions were held at the AIT International Arena on Sunday March 29th 2015.

Kayleigh Cronin represented our club on the Discus where she finished in 2nd place with a throw of 40.37m. First was Sophie Parkinson Gowran AC 40.79m. A great start to the season, well done.

Monday 6th April 2015

Just under 100 runners turned out for the annual Jack O'Keeffe BOHERBUE-KISKEAM '4' Mile road race on Easter Monday 6 April 2015. The race was organised by Gneeveguilla AC. 

In terms of prizes, the prizes were exceptional with the top 10 men and women getting into the prizes as well as the usual category prizes. As short races and prizes go, it's probably one of the most generous in the country.

Juvenile Training & Fixtures

Just a reminder that we will have no Juvenile training next Thursday (2nd Apr.) & Tuesday (7th Apr.). No senior training on Thursday also.
Training will be back as normal on Thursday 9th April at 6pm for Juveniles & 7pm for senior group.

The next athletics competitions on the cards is the County Juvenile Track & field Championships which will be held over 2 days on May 9th & 10th. This is only 5 weeks away.
