National Intermediate, Masters and Juvenile B Cross Country C'Mariaships 2015

The National Intermediate, Masters and Juvenile B Cross Country Championships were held in Tuam, Co. Galway last Sunday. Weather conditions were dry with no wind but it was very cold and a dense fog covered the course for all races.

Maria & Shauna McCarthy

In the U11 Girls 1000m race, Shauna McCarthy ran very well to finish in 6th place out of a field of over eighty and earn herself an individual medal. This was Shauna's first time competing at national level and did very well to control her nerves.




Caitriona Barry competed in the Masters race, 4000m, which saw one hundred and forty athletes competing. Caitriona finished in 19th place overall and was the 2nd Kerry finisher. She was 8th in the very competitive O40 category. The county team finished in 5th place.

Maria McCarthy opted to competed in the Intermediate ladies 5000m race to make up a county team. Maria ran very well over what was a very sticky course. Maria finished in 7th place and helped the county team to a gold medal. Other members of the team were Shona Heislip An Riocht (5th), Grace Lynch Iveragh AC (13th), Karina Teahan St. Finbarrs AC (19th) & Niamh Clifford Star Of The Laune AC (37th). 
This is Maria's third national medal in cross country for the season.
