KERRY AAI AWARDS NIGHT

The Kerry AAI awards night was held in the River Island Hotel, Castleisland on Saturday 24th March.
It was a very enjoyable night out. The awards night is to congratulate the excellent performances of our Kerry Athletes during 2011 and to acknowledge their great efforts in competitions.
Jerry Kiernan was inducted into the Kerry Athletics Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to our Award Winners and to our club officials, coaches, volunteers, parents and friends without whom our athletes would not be able to reach such high levels of performance.

We had seven athletes who were recepiants of an award for 2011.

CLUB AWARDS WINNERS
David Kenny: He has been a consistent performer on track and cross country winning National team medals in cross country. David won the U13 walk at the county championships before going on to win bronze medal at National championships on the same event.

Niamh De Hora: She has been a consistent performer over a variety of distances and a medalist at County , Munster and National competition. These included a silver medal in the National Community Games 1,500m and medals at Munster over 800m and 1500m. Niamh has also been a valued member of the Kerry Track 7 Field league team.

MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY & ROADS
Maria McCarthy: In the County Cross Country she was 1st County Novice , 1st County Intermediate and 2nd County Senior. In the Munster Cross country Maria was 2nd Intermediate and 3rd Senior. At the Munster Indoors she was 1st 1500m, 1st 3000m indoors and also 2nd kerry 10mile.

INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
Jonathan Foley: AAI Munster Clubs: 1st-Pole Vault, Discus, Javelin, Hammer. 1st All Ireland schools - Pole Vault, 1st Tailteann Games - Pole Vault, 1st AAI National Championships - Pole vault, Represented Ireland in schools international and celtic games 2nd - Pole vault. Represented club in the European Club Championships - 2nd Pole Vault, 3rd - Javelin.

SPECIAL MERIT AWARDS
Jim O'Shea: Indoor Events: Munster - 1st High Jump. National - 1st High Jump. British - 1st high jump (New Irish Masters Record - 1.36m)
Outdoor Events: County - 1st High jump, 100m & Long Jump. Munster: - 1st High Jump. National - 1st High Jump, 2nd Long Jump. British - 1st High Jump

Daniel Clifford: Having dominated all the throwing events at the Munster U23 Championships Daniel won the shot at the Munster Senior Indoors. He was also a gold medalist in the shot at the national Intervarsities Indoors andd a silver medalist outdoors. He just missed out on a medal at the national Seniors when placing 4th.

JUNIOR TRACK & FIELD
Emma Prendiville: Emma won the All-Ireland U19 Indoor (walk), she came 15th in the 10,000m European Junior Championships 2011, 2nd in 3000m Junior Indoors 2011. Represented Ireland at the European Cup of racewalking.
