Club Annual Awards Night 2012

The Annual Dinner and Awards ceremony took place in Bleachfield Bistro, Milltown on Friday night and a good night was had by all.
Firstly we must thank all our club members for attending our annual awards night which is very important event for the whole club. Thanks to our sponsors Mr. O'Sullivan of Dingle and a big thanks to the staff and chef of Bleachfield Bistro for such a lovely meal and homely atmosphere.
We must also give a big thanks to the board members of the club and coaches who work diligently, without fuss to keep this club operating for so many years.

The following received presentations for their achievement during the year.
The U9 boys who won the County Cross Country, the County Cross Country relay and County Track and field relay.
  • Tomas Clifford: 1st in county Primary & county championships. 3rd in Munster, 1st in county cross country & 4th in Munster cross country 
  • Brian Burke: 1st in county primary, 3rd in Munster, county championship medal won in cross country, cross country relay and T&F relay
  • Liam O'Driscoll: Improved very well this year with medals in cross country indiv & relay and T&F relay.
  • Michael Brosnan: 2nd in county cross country, Munster cross country medal and medal in county cross country relay.
  • Christopher Palmer: county track & field relay medal 

The U10 girls who won the County Cross Country:
  • Ciara Kearney: Medal in Long Jump and county cross country championships.
  • Chloe O'Connor: Medal in county primary schools sprint.
  • Megan Brosnan: Very promising in the hurdles
  • Julianne Murphy: Important member of the team and shows great improvement over the year
  • Natasha Myers: 2nd county cross country and 6th in Munster cross country
  • Rebecca Kenny: Had a great run in the county cross country championships. A natural runner 

The U13 boys won the County Cross Country.
  • David Kenny: 3rd in county cross country, 1st in community games walk. medal in national county games and an all Ireland cross country medal with Kerry
  • Jack O'Driscoll: Had a very solid performance in the cross country. Improving in every race.
  • Jake Flynn: Skill and technique has improved, ran a very good race
  • Diarmuid Brosnan: A very important member of the team who came in just before Kenmare runner to ensure team gained the valuable points for first place.

The U18 girls won the County Cross Country.
  • Cassandra Myers, Niamh De Hora and Roisin O'connor show great potential and were a great driving force within the team.
  • Aaron Flynn: won county and community games 200m. Won county cross country medal.
  • Diane Cooper: Won the county community games Ball Throw. Show great potential.
  • Robert Campbell: won medal in the county community games Ball throw Trained hard and improved from 30m to 40m.



Daniel Clifford received the Gerald Fitzgerald Cup as the best Senior Athlete.
He also too third place in the national Indoors in Belfast. Won all throws in the U23 category. 1st in the Munster senior indoor shot. In the inter varsities he Daniel was 1st indoors and 2nd outdoors.

Junior athlete Emma Prendeville got the Breda Brosnan Cup.
Emma was 2nd in the All Ireland junior 3K walk. She won 5K walk in the Isle of Man, 1st in the U19 Indoors. Emma was also part of the Irish team in Tallin, Estonia.

The Dr. Eamonn O'Sullivan Cup went to juvenile athlete Jonathan Foley.
Jonathan won the Munster junior indoor Pole Vault. He was first in the all Ireland schools PV and 1st in the tailteam games at 4 meters.

The New York Masters Trophy went to Jim O'Shea.
Jim has much success in the County / Munster and National championships for events Long Jump, High Jump and sprints. The highlight of the year was when he was 1st in the British Masters High Jump.

The middle distance and Cross Country Shield went to Maria & George McCarthy.
New members to the club husband and wife did very well in the cross country events
Maria was 1st in the County Novice and Intermediate cross country. She was 2nd in the county senior cross country and member of the Kerry team. In the Munster cross country events she was 2nd in the Novice and Intermediate and 3rd in the Munster senior. Maria also took 1st in the Munster indoor events for 3000m and 1500m.
George was 3rd in the county intermediate cross country. He was a member of the senior club team to take 2nd in the county cross country. George was also a member of the Kerry team to take 3rd in the munster senior cross country.

George Walsh Throws Cup to James Nagle.
James won the Munster Track & Field senior award in Jan 2011. 1st in the Munster senior indoor. 2nd for the 35lb Inter Varsities. In the county championships James was 1st Hammer 56lb, 2nd Disc and 3rd shot. His PB was over 35m with hammer.

Juvenile Mid Distance and Cross Country Trophy was presented to Jack O'Sullivan.
Jack won medals in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m events at the county and Munster level - clubs and schools. Jack also ran a PB of 01:57 in the 800m. This was the best time by any Kerry athlete for 15years.

Arthur Fitzgerald received the Merit Club Person Nelligan Cup.
Arthur was awarded this cup for his commitment and dedication in training the clubs young athletes. The results above mentioned says it all. He also did very well himself where he was 2nd in the county senior cross country. He was part of the Kerry team to win bronze in the Munster senior cross country



Also honoured at this years awards:
It has been 50years since the club won the prestigious Quill cup for the first time.
The team that won the Quill Cup at the 1962 County Track and Field Championships in Castleisland included:
Jim O'shea, Bill Costelloe, Matt Horgan, Frank O'Connor, Mike Fleming, Jerome Crowley, John J. Daly, Mike O'Shea, Tom Walsh (Capt), Mike Walsh and Michael Foley. Denny McSweeney and John Piggott, both deceased, were also members.
