Annual St. Stephens Day 5K Run...2015

Farranfore Maine Valley A.C.
5KM Road Race / Fun Run

Fr. Dan Browne Memorial Cup
Saturday 26th December 2015 @ 12 noon

One of the oldest road races in Ireland takes place every St. Stephens day. It has been run since 1961 along the same route.
Now in its 54th year, is run from Farranfore to Firies and back to the finish in Farranfore.

In 2013 we changed the distance from the traditional 4.16miles (6.7KM) to 3.1miles (5KM). This was to make the route safer for all runners and spectators by closing the road to traffic. It proved to be a great success so we have decided to keep with this for our race in 2015.

We will keep the traditional route of starting at the Kerry Mill in Farranfore, running close to the cross-roads in Firies and returning via the same route. So it will be in keeping with the traditional OUT AND BACK course. You can enjoy the day without having to worry about any traffic concerns.

Registration on the day will take place in the Sports Hall, Farranfore from 10:45am. GPS: 52.172649,-9.546777
There is ample parking with changing facilities.

The Course.... 5KM DISTANCE

The first 400 meters is up hill, once at the top it is down hill and then levels off for at least 1.6KM. Up hill as you approach Firies Village, you will then turn on the road where it will be clearly marked. From here on you are returning on the same road you started from.
The road will be closed off to all traffic for the duration of the race.
Their will be plenty of stewards along the route with water stations also available.
