Munster Senior and Juvenile Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships 2015

The picturesque Beaufort Village was the setting for this year's Munster Senior and Juvenile Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships. Weather conditions in the run up to the days races was very heavy rain and strong winds. Thankfully the rain eased off for the juvenile races and eventually the skies cleared and the sun shined for the remainder of the day. Due to the heavy downpour the course was turned into a mud bath, but this only added to the occasion with some exciting races. There was a big turn out from all munster clubs, which is great to see.
See Provisional results here.

A small number of our juveniles competed in the uneven ages races. First up was Kian Costello in the U9 750m. Kian who prefers the bare foot approach ran well and continues to improve at every race and finished in 58th place.
Ellen Kelliher & Eabha McCarthy took part in the U11 1500m race. With well over 120 competing, both girls ran well together and gained a lot of places in the last 200m. They were both part of the Kerry team who finished in 6th place.
Cormac Costello & Jack O'Brien ran well in the U11 boys race. Cormac finished in the top 100 with over 120 competing. The Kerry team finished in 5th place.
Shauna McCarthy, running out of age in the U13 2500m race made small work of the muddy course and like her sister gained alot of position to finish strong in 42nd place. She was the second to cross the line for Kerry with the team finishing just outside the medals in 4th place.
Cian Spillane & Conal O'Mahoney (U13), both out of age, did very well with Cian finishing in 16th place. Conal competing in his first Munster Championship did very well and finished strong in 69th place (8th for Kerry) out of almost 100 runners. Cian was part of the Kerry team to secure bronze.

Luke McLarnon, running in his very first Munster XC competing in the U19 6000m. Luke started off very well staying with the lead bunch. As the race progressed he was positioned in thirteenth place . With one 1500m lap to go Luke dug in and upped the pace to take 12th place and held it to the finish line to earn himself an individual medal. Luke will now go forward to represent Munster in the National XC in December.

The club and county was well represented in the Women's Senior race (28 competing). With a distance of 8000m to contend with, it was a big step up for most ladies. Maria McCarthy finished just outside the individual medals in 4th place, but she lead the club team home to win bronze. The team was made up of Maria, Caitriona Barry, Grainne Tierney, Maura Fitzgerald & Pauline Joseph. (4,12,25,27) Well done to you all this is a first for the club.
