The Autumn Open Cross Country took place on Sunday 18th October in Phoenix Park, Dublin under ideal weather conditions.
The Autumn Open incorporates the trial race for selection for Master Athletes ahead of the forthcoming British & Irish Masters CC International, scheduled for Saturday 14th November in Santry Demense, Co. Dublin.
Three of our female masters athletes made the long trip to compete in this highly competitive race.
Maria McCarthy, no stranger to this event as she represented Ireland back in 2012 when she won a silver team medal, was accompanied by Caitriona Barry who just last week won the County Intermediate XC title and Grainne Tierney who just joined the club this year.
They competed in the 5Km race. Maria ran very well to complete the course in a time of 19:34 and has guaranteed herself a place on the O40 Irish Team. Caitriona Barry equally ran a very strong race to finish in 20:24. Caitriona could be in with a shot of a place on the O40 team also.

Grainne continues to gain valuable experience and is improving in every competitive race. She finished in a time of 23:59. Well done to you all. It is a rare occasion to see three female club athletes competing at a high level together.
Niamh O'Sullivan & Sharon Cahill from An Riocht AC have also qualified for the Irish Masters O50 team. Shona Heaslip finished in 2nd place overall in the 8K race just a short distance behind Annmarie McGlynn, the Irish women’s team captain who captured bronze medals at the Europeans last year.
