The cross country course at Waterford IT provided a tough challenge for all the athletes competing at the Woodie’s DIY Novice and Uneven age group Cross Country Championships held on Sunday December 15th 2013. Athletes had to endure the a course which had numerous twists and turns, steep climbs and fast down hills. A tough challenge foor all runners young and old.
Their was a field of 116 athlets competing for the title. Our own Maria McCarthy was the first kerry lady to cross the line. Maria ran a very strong race in working her way up to 5th place for a part of the race. Maria finished in 7th place overall, with less than a minute behind the winner.This was Marias's second year in a row to finish in the top 10.

Their was a very strong field of 222 runners competing in the gruelling 6000m course. Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC) was the hot favourite following his 9th place finish in the European XC last week-end. He did not dissapoint when crossing the line to take his gold.
Kerry county had teams running in both the womens and mens Novice races.

Grace Lynch (Iveragh) finished in 21st, AnneMarie Costello (Gneeveguilla) was in 32nd and our own Caitriona Barry finished in 41st place. This was Caitriona's first ever national cross country so after this performace I am sure we will see more of her in the future.
The county team finished in 4th place just 30 points behind a bronze medal.

Kerry had a 10 man competing in this years national race. This is the largest team put together in some time now. First home for Kerry was our country senior winner James Doran (An Riocht). James finished in 49th place. Just behind James was our own Arthur Fitzgerald in 52nd place. Arthur ran a very strong race and he was accompanied by Cian Murphy (Iveragh) 53rd and James Doran who worked very hard as a group to keep pushing on. Great team work .
The team finished in 7th Place overall and An Riocht Club team were in 17th place.

The first race of the day with 150 runners. Natasha Myers was competing as part of the Munster province team. Natasha finished in 42nd place. Munster province took gold. Well done.
