County Senior Junior and Juvenile Relay XC 2013_Results

The final county cross country races for this season were held in Cahersiveen on Sunday 3rd Nov. 2013. It was a wet and cold afternoon. Thankfully the wind stayed away.
The course was a 900m loop with a long uphill and downhill to contend with. Thanks to the Iveragh AC for organising the event and laying out a good cross country course.

We would like to thank all who supported us throughout the county cross country season. It takes alot of time and effort to prepare the kids for the long distances, cold and wet conditions. But to see the smiles on their faces when they cross the finish line makes it all worth it.
So thanks to our coaches Arthur Fitzgerald & Maria McCarthy, support group: Jerome Crowley, Mary Kennedy, Eileen Myers and all the parents.
Best of luck to our juveniles who will be going on further to compete in Munster and National level.

Juvenile Relays..
The relays were to cover the entire course, so the first runner had to contend with the 200m hill. This proved to be a big challenge for the young juveniles, but they all showed great spirit and completed the route in flying form.

Our U9 Girls and U9 boys did very well. Both teams earned gold medals. The teams were:
Girls: Eabha McCarthy, Ellen Kelleher, Louise Kennedy, Laura O'Driscoll

Boys: Cormac Costello, Josh Dower, Michael Fitzgerald, Jack O'Brien

Our U11 Girls did very well and secured silver: The team was Natasha Myers, Shauna McCarthy, Katie Brosnan, Corrine Griffin

U11 Boys had stiff competition and finished in 4th place, just missing out in 3rd spot.
The team was:  John Power, Tomás Clifford, Michael Brosnan, Brian Burke

In The Senior Womens 5000m race, Maria McCarthy ran a superb race to retain her County Senior Title. It was tit for tat between herself and Niamh O'Sullivan of An Riocht for most of the race. But in the last lap Maria showed her strength on the hill and was able to pull away from Niamh to finish with a few meters to spare. Caitriona Barry equally ran a good race to take 3rd place.
A big thanks to our two new members of our club for turning out and competing in their very first cross country race. With their help and strong performance gave Farranfore ladies team the gold medal. Well done to Michelle Hoare & Eileen Egan

In the Mens 10k race, Arthur Fitzgerald ran a strong race to finish in 3rd place. George McCarthy was next home in 6th place with Aidan McCarthy finishing in 11th spot. They got 3rd team medals.

James Doran of An Riocht ran a very strong race to retain his County Senior Title, Cian Murphy took second spot.
