County Intermediate, Masters and Uneven Age Cross Country ..2013

Farranfore hosted the County Intermediate, Masters & Juvenile UnEven Ages Cross Country which was held last  Sunday 13th October in Kilahone, Firies.  We would like to thank Denis Cronin and family for the use of their land.
A big thanks to Jerome and Jim for marking out the course in preperation for the big event.

First up was the Womens Intermediate and Masters category. This was run over 4000m. Well done to Caitriona Barry for taking silver in the Intermediate Race. She ran a very strong race and led for the most part, but unfortunately was pipped at the line by Siobhan Daly from An Riocht.

In the U9 girls, First home for Farranfore was Eabha McCarthy who ran a very strong finish to take 3rd spot. All her team mates ran very well to secure Gold in the teams. Eabha McCarthy, Ellen Kelliher, Louise Kennedy, Laura O'Driscoll & Kayleigh Butler.

The U9 boys equally ran very well with Cormac Costello being the first home for Farranfore. All the U9 boys did very well to take medals in the team event. Cormac Costello, Josh Vermiglio, Michéal Fitzgerald & Jack O'Brien

In the U11 girls, 1500m, Natasha Myers led from the start and finished very comfortably to secure first place. The U11 girls also won silver in the team event. Natasha Myers, Shauna McCarthy, Katie Brosnan, Corrina Griffin, Rebecca Kenny & Leah McCarthy.



Thomas Clifford equally ran a tough U11 boys race to finish in second place. The team finished in fourth place overall.


Elaine O'Donoghue took part in the U13 2500m race. This was a big step up for Elaine and she ran a great race to finish well up in the field.

In the final race of the day - the Intermediate & Masters Mens was run over 7500m. Their was a big field of competitors taking part, well up from last year. Rob Purcell from Gneeveguilla led with a flying pace and maintained this throughout the  whole race. He was first to finish taking the O45 ghold medal.
Well done to George McCarthy who added the Intermediate title to his Novice win last week. George also took gold in the O40 category. Aidan McCarthy won silver in the O35 category. This was after running on tired legs following his great performance in the Valentia Half marathon the day before. Tim took gold in the O55 category.
