Munster Junior, Senior & Juv Relay Cross Country C'ships..Results

The Munster Senior, Junior and Juvenile Relay Cross Country Championships were held at the Limerick racecourse on Sunday Jan. 13th 2013. It was a cold day but thankfully it stayed dry for the most of it. The course was made up of a 2Km large loop and 500m small loop.
The course was a good cross country route with plenty of short hills and dips with sharp turns and steep gradients. Compliments to the organisers.

In the Juvenile Relays the Kerry teams did very well. We won county medals in almost all categories.
U10 Girls-Gold, U10 Boys-Bronze, U12 Girls-Gold, U10 Boys-Bronze, U12 Girls-Bronze, U12 Boys-Bronze & U14 Girls-Bronze. A credit to all the juvenile coaches and organisers in the county.

Our club had Natasha Myers in the U10 girls team. Natasha ran a very good race and helped the team to win Gold. Natasha is after have an excellent cross country season where she represented the county in both Munster and National level. Well done.
In the U10 Boys we had Thomas Clifford running for the county. Here the boys took bronze in what was a very exciting race.
In the U14 boys we had David Kenny and Jack O'Driscoll running. They both ran a very strong relay but unfortunately they just missed out on the medals.

In the Womens Senior race we had Maria McCarthy & Caitriona Barry racing and making up the county team. They were 27 runners and the 5K race started off very fast with Siobhan O'Doherty of Borrisokane taking the lead from the start. Siobhan held this lead and won comfortably. Second to finish was Rosemary Ryan of Dooneen and her club mate Tracey Roche was third. Maria had a great race to be the first county woman home in 4th place. Next home for Kerry was Catherine Kiely (Gneeveguilla) in 6th place. Caitriona was next home for Kerry and ran a very strong race to finish in 9th position. The Kerry ladies took the Bronze county team medal with just a single point seperating them from first and second team positions. Well done to you all
The county team was made up of: Maria McCarthy, Catherine Kiely, Caitriona Barry, Deirdre Enright and Mary O'Connor.

In the Mens Senior 10K race we had Artur Fitzgerald, George McCarthy and Verners Tess running for club and county. In a field of almost 60 top class runners, the winner of this race was Jason Fahy of BOMH, 2nd - Kevin Maunsell of Clonmel AC and 3rd was Michael Shannon of St. Johns in Clare.
First home for Kerry was Cian Murphy in 12th place, followed by Donal O'Callaghan in 14th. Arthur ran a very strong race to come in 19th followed home by clubmate George in 24th. Robert Purcell and Darren Burke finished in 29th and 37th respectively to complete the county team points. They secured enough points to take the Bronze county team medal. Other runners for Kerry were Tommy O'Brien and our own Verners Tess. This was Verners first ever cross country race. He ran the course in a good time and we hope to see him competing again in next seasons cross country. Well done to all.

This is probably the clubs last cross country race of the season, and it was one of our most successful one in as many years. So well done to all our athletes who competed in the XC events around Ireland in the last 4 months. Also a special thanks to our coaches and organisers working hard in the background.
